Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and highly effective technique that involves applying sustained gentle pressure into the connective tissue fibers called fascia.  Fascia form sheets or bands throughout the body to attach, stabilize, enclose and separate muscles and other internal organs.  Together with the muscles this connective tissue network form what is known as the myofascial system.   When restrictions are created through trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures, Myofascial Release can be administered to eliminate pain and restore full motion.  Unfortunately such restrictions are not measured by many standards tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc) leading to lingering ailments.

Hands-On Treatment.  Each Myofascial Release Therapy session is performed directly on the skin without oils, creams or machinery.  This enables the therapist to accurately detect myofascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate its release.  My one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which I use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy.  Each client is seen as unique and the therapy is tailored to their bodily needs.   I like to promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

Message Therapy

Massage is the age-old therapy of body relaxation. Just as everything in our world is connected, massage puts us in touch with our personal harmony through experience with a healing practice.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses a combination of five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage the muscles. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing joint stiffness and pain correlated with it.  It has been known to improve function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.  It has also been discovered to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.

Neuromuscular Therapy

NMT, Neuromuscular Therapy works with the attachments and insertions of the muscles in a very strategic way to release the blockage of muscle blood flow.  The application of pressure to the trigger points, helps to release the restricted tissue and increase circulation.  This effective massage technique is often prescribed for injuries and chronic conditions.  Through the softening of trigger points, NMT aims to reduce chronic pain, increase range of motion, and correct postural distortions.

Lomi Lomi level 1 and 2

Lomi Lomi, a traditional Hawaiian massage, is a highly fluid form of bodywork.  A gentle pressure of smooth soothing strokes throughout the muscle system is applied.  Lomi Lomi is uniquely administered through the palms, forearms, knuckles, elbows and stones.  Though the practive of Lomi Lomi varied from family to family, it was commonly referred to as “praying” work.  The early Polynesian settlers brought their own form of massage to the South Pacific Islands of Hawaii and it evolved to become something uniquely Hawaiian.  From child to chief, it was practiced by everyone.  As an indigenous practice that evolved over hundreds of years in isolated valleys throughout the island chain, there are many different “schools” of Lomi Lomi with different approaches and techniques.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage for an expecting mother can be a blessing of health and comfort in a growing fetus’ environment.  Relieving muscle tension to the compensating muscles can have many health benefits in the short and long term such as, but not limited to:

  • hormone regulation
  • reducing the level of stress hormone
  • increase in circulation and reduction of edema (swelling)
  • improvement of nerve pain, sciatica
  • reduced muscle tension and headaches
  • better sleep

Reflexology

Reflexology is an alternative medicine involving applied pressure to the feet, hands and ears with thumb, finger, and hand techniques.  It is based on the belief that a system of zones and reflex areas reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands.  With pressure to these specific areas, it helps to affect a beneficial change to the physical body.

Hot Stone

The application of hot stones helps to quicken the process of opening the deeper tissues. Heat softens the soft tissues and raises relaxation to another level and comfort.
